This is the second album from Jacob Sacks and Eivind Opsvik's collaborative group; Two Miles A Day. This new recording features drummer Billy Mintz and violist Mat Maneri.
In 2005, Pianist Jacob Sacks and bassist Eivind Opsvik reached out to legendary drummer Paul Motian about doing a recording, this came to fruition, and “Two Miles A Day” with Mr. Motian and violist Mat Maneri was released in 2007. This album has since its release become an underground classic.
After Paul Motian’s passing, they continued to play shows around NYC with esteemed drummers in the community. When it came time to plan a second follow-up album, the decision to include Billy Mintz was an easy one. He’s one of the great masters of the NY jazz scene, a unique and singular musician.
Sacks and Opsvik each contributed six compositions for the album. The music explores a wide range of moods and feelings and runs the gamut from swinging tunes to free abstraction while maintaining a playful, creative spirit.
It was all recorded at Oktaven Audio in Mount Vernon, NY. The musicians were in the same room without headphones and it was beautifully engineered and mixed straight down to two-track by Ryan Streber.
